Apple Agent Store – Capability as a Service

Speculation time! Are LLMs with their chain-of-thought capabilities opening the door to a new disruption – Capability as a Service? Imagine Siri accessing your company's API directly, no app installation required.

The Rise of Vertical AI Agents

We have seen a proliferation of vertical agents everywhere. If I’m a bit reductive, many of these are “chatbots” trained in specific domain area, or attached to an app or service. Sometimes the bot is the offering sometimes it’s playing an assistant role – Cleo’s banking assistant, Intercom’s bot for customer support, etc.

System-Provided Interfaces: The Next Frontier

With chat-based interactions already implemented within many apps, enabling system-level assistants like Siri to access app functionalities through frameworks like AppIntents seems like a natural evolution. Currently, developers must build and submit complete apps that provide both Siri integration and a set of designed interfaces and components for it to use.

From App Intents to API Intents

Imagine a future where companies simply provide Siri with API access and specify general UI guidelines for it to use. This could lead to a marketplace of capabilities rather than services, all seamlessly integrated by the system itself.

Users could access functionality without installing dedicated apps, creating a more fluid and integrated experience.
